Our Impact
Our Impact Across Idaho
Since 2012, Idaho Crisis & Suicide Hotline (ICSH) has provided statewide crisis services to Idahoans in every county, operating a locally based system long before the national 988 launch in July 2022. As a non-profit program, ICSH delivers high-quality, free, and confidential crisis support as a core part of Idaho’s behavioral health infrastructure.
Since July 2022, ICSH has served as the hub of Idaho’s statewide crisis system through a subgrant with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and a subcontract with Magellan Health, as part of the Idaho Behavioral Health Plan.
Key Components of Idaho’s crisis system:
Someone to Call: 988 - Idaho Crisis & Suicide Hotline
Someone to Respond: Idaho’s mobile crisis teams
Somewhere to Go: Idaho’s community crisis centers and other crisis stabilization centers
The Impact Reports below provide transparent, statewide data on the utilization of Idaho’s 988 crisis system, geographic demand trends, and response timeliness. This information helps policymakers evaluate system performance, understand cost drivers, and see how early crisis intervention reduces pressure on emergency departments, law enforcement, and other publicly funded systems—supporting efficient use of state resources while meeting Idaho’s behavioral health obligations.
Why this matters to Idaho:
Our locally operated 988 system prevents higher-cost emergency responses by stabilizing individuals before crises escalate to emergency departments, law enforcement, hospitalization, or incarceration. Early intervention improves outcomes while reducing strain on Idaho’s emergency, healthcare, and public safety systems—especially in rural areas.
As Idaho’s local 988 center, Idaho Crisis & Suicide Hotline responds 24/7 to calls, texts, and chats from Idahoans in crisis, deescalating more than 85% of situations and connecting individuals to mobile crisis teams or local crisis centers when needed. This approach helps prevent unnecessary higher levels of care and ensures timely, community-based support.
The data below demonstrate accountability and system performance, showing how crisis funding translates into measurable outcomes: timely responses, reduced escalation, and safer communities—protecting lives while making responsible use of limited public resources.
